Wedding Invitation Wording

ORIGINAL: MARCH 2011
Word-up!

I have been finding that…. Every bride seems to have issues choosing the wording for their wedding invitation. Most wording is either too formal, too casual, or too cheesy. I have read some pretty CHEESE BALL samples out there. The thing to remember its YOUR invitation, it doesn’t have to follow a sample! It can just get the facts across and be completely creative.

Along with the invitation getting ALL the facts to the guests, the invitation does have a few rules… Here are some that your invitation specialista ;) can help you with.
  1. Whoever is hosting should be the one asking your guest to be there.
  2. Use proper given names, Anthony, not Tony.
  3. I have said it before… it is in very poor taste to put where you are registered for gifts on your wedding invitation, or on a slip of paper in the envelope. The word is spread by mouth of friends and family. People WILL ask. You WILL get enough gifts.
  4. You shouldn’t put no children or adults only on the invitation. You should just address the envelope to the people who are invited. Example: “Mr. & Mrs. Michael Leary” means the parents only are invited. “Mr. Michael Leary & Family” means the children are welcome.
  5. Handwritten enveloped seem MUCH more personal they a address label.
  6. There are also rules on how to invite different types of people. For example: a man and wife where she has kept her name, a doctor and his wife, widows, etc.
  7. Think of all these as guidelines not so much rules… ALL of them may not apply to YOUR wedding.
  8. Do NOT reject all the rules, some of them will help everything to go smoothly.
BUT ONE RULE IS FOR SURE-GET YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS OUT 6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING, NO NEED FOR THEM TO GO OUT SOONER, AND ANY LATER COULD RESULT IN A SMALL AFFAIR FOR LACK OF PLANNING TIME FOR THE GUESTS.

That’s all for now… Don’t be intimidated by all the formalities! If you have questions, ASK someone… like Snazzylime! Thanks for reading! Until next time… be sure to follow posts on FaceBook about what Snazzy is up to everyday!
